Mushroom Compost is a consistent product made to a specific recipe to always ensure a high-quality product. With its high-water retention rate and ability to provide necessary plant nutrients, mushroom compost has become one of the most popular garden additives in Victoria.

The all-organic ingredients include –

·       Horse manure

·       Straw

·       Fowl manure

·       Gypsum

·       Peatmoss

·       Cottonseed meal

HOW IT HELPS

Mushroom Compost helps improve the texture and condition of the soil while providing nutrients for a wide range of plants without any adverse effects on growth and development.

This pure compost can be safely added to soils which are used to grow a wide variety of vegetables, shrubs and flowers. It is particularly beneficial to clay and sandy soils by providing increased organic matter, nutrients and water retention properties.

When used as a mulch it acts as an insulator, keeping soil warm in cool weather, and cool during hot weather. Mushroom Compost increases the soil’s ability to retain water and nutrients, while also increasing the soils resistance to both wind and water erosion.

While its not a potting mix, it can be safely blended for potting with other quality ingredients.

RECOMMENDED APPLICATION

AS A MULCH

Spread a generous 5cm layer of the compost around shrubs, seedlings and veggies

AS A SOIL CONDITIONER

For the best results as a soil conditioner, spread a 5cm layer of the compost over the desired area and work it well into the top 15cm of the soil. If you have sandy or clay soils, then dig in 10cm of compost for maximum benefit.

AS A POTTING MIX ADDITIVE

Mushroom Compost can be safely used as a potting mix additive, just add approximately 15% of the compost to the total potting mixture and mix in well.

IN YOUR GARDEN

Mushroom Compost has a pH ranging from 6.7 to 7.2. If you have acid loving plants that require a pH less of 6.7, for example, camellias or azaleas, dig the compost in about half a metre away from the plant to ensure that it benefits from the compost without being harmed. The concentration of soluble plant nutrients in Mushroom Compost is such that the maximum rate of application on one occasion as a mulch or for digging in 5cm or less should be no more than 2.5 litres per square metre for sensitive plants and no more than 10 litres per square metre for tolerant plants. For digging into a depth of at least 10cm the above amount can be doubled. Repeat applications may be made after several weeks.
